Writers requirements

Background

The following requirements only apply to writers who are contracted by Destguides to produce content. All other writers must ensure their content satisfies our content guidelines only.

Requirements

The following requirements must be satisfied before the content will be accepted.

Overall

  1. Do not change the title given to you.
  2. Use short paragraphs. Each paragraph should have 2-4 sentences. A sentence should be less than 20 words.
  3. Write from your experience and as if you are speaking to the reader personally.
  4. Ensure all work is original. Content is checked for plagiarism.
  5. Ensure all content guidelines are satisfied.
  6. Write in plain English.
  7. Use a serial comma (Oxford comma).
  8. When mentioning a location or fact, use a link within the text to provide more information.
  9. If provided a "brief", ensure that all aspects of the brief are satisfied (word count, keywords, number of days or activities, etc.)

Title

Titles must reference the main:

  1. Purpose of the itinerary (top N sights, N days, etc.)
  2. Destination of the itinerary (Paris, New York, etc.)
  3. Differentiator of the itinerary (for coffee lovers, complete guide, etc.)

Introduction

  1. Should be a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 20% of the total word count
  2. The first sentence should hook the reader in. For example, use an interesting fact or pose a question about the place
  3. Provide a brief overview of what the itinerary covers (Day 1, Day 2, key points of interest, etc.).
  4. Explain why the reader should care about this itinerary. Are you targeting a particular group of people, like coffee lovers, couples, etc.? If so, identify and explain a problem this group of people might have and how this article addresses their need.

Multi-day Itineraries

For multi-day itineraries, ensure that:

  1. Each day has:
    1. A minimum of 100 words
    2. A catchy title
    3. A brief overview that explains what the day will cover and why the reader should be excited
  2. Each stop has:
    1. A minimum of 100 words
    2. A catchy title
    3. An overview explaining why you recommend they visit and what they should do
    4. A URL for the business or tourism website (in English)
    5. A URL for the Trip Advisor (.com) listing
    6. The Google Places ID

The days and stops must be in order. Please make sure you can easily walk or transit between the stops. The itinerary must make logical sense.

List Itineraries

For each activity in a list itinerary, an activity must have:

  1. A minimum of 100 words
  2. A catchy title
  3. An overview explaining why you recommend they visit and what they should do
  4. A URL for the business or tourism website (in English)
  5. A URL for the Trip Advisor (.com) listing
  6. The Google Places ID

Conclusion

  1. Should be a minimum of 150 words
  2. Should summarise the highlights of the itinerary
  3. Should leave the reader excited about visiting the destination

Keyword Usage

  1. The target keyword phrase must be used in the introduction of the article, within the first 100 words.
  2. A related keyword phrase (to the target keyword phrase) should be used once every 300 words in a natural way. You do not have to use all of the suggestions in this section, but they are different versions of the target keyword phrase that should appear naturally throughout the article.
  3. The required keywords must be included in the article, just once is enough. Some of the required keywords given to you correspond to stops.
  4. Please do not overstuff the article with keywords.
